Tragic End for Migrant Worker from Uttar Pradesh in Kochi

Mohit Kumar, a 28-year-old native of Uttar Pradesh, who came to Kochi seeking employment, tragically passed away while undergoing treatment at Vandanam Medical College, Alappuzha. Severely ill Mohit Kumar found near Metro Pillar No. 739 in Kochi

Mohit was found in a severely ill condition in front of the South Railway Station in Kochi City, near Metro Pillar No. 739. The once bustling young man had been reduced to lying on the street, his leg infected and bleeding, emanating a foul odor that indicated his deteriorating health. Unable to find work due to his worsening condition, Mohit's plight went unnoticed by many until the intervention of a compassionate individual and an NGO.

Murugan, the Secretary of the NGO Theruvoram, discovered Mohit's dire state and took immediate action. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Murugan applied to the Ernakulam District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) for assistance. The DLSA Secretary responded promptly, facilitating Mohit's transfer to Vandanam Medical College in Alappuzha via ambulance.

Transporting Mohit Kumar to Vandanam Medical College, Alappuzha 

Admitted on April 17, 2024, under token number 329, Mohit began receiving the medical attention he desperately needed. However, despite the efforts of the medical staff, his condition continued to decline. On April 22, 2024, Mohit succumbed to his illness, marking a tragic end to his story.

Auto-rickshaw drivers, who had seen Mohit lying under the metro pillar for days, expressed their sorrow over his passing. They recounted his presence and the visible signs of his suffering, reflecting on the harsh realities faced by many migrant workers who come to cities in search of better opportunities but end up in dire straits due to health issues, lack of social support, and systemic neglect.
