Founder's Profile

Murugan S Theruvoram's remarkable journey from humble beginnings to the establishment of Theruvoram NGO is a testament to his unwavering compassion and resilience.

Born in Peeru Medu, Idukki, Murugan's upbringing in orphanages instilled in him a deep sense of empathy for the marginalized. He has traversed a remarkable path from the squalor of a slum near Gandhinagar, Kochi, to becoming a beacon of hope for thousands of street children. Born to Shanmukham and Valli, who hail from Tamil Nadu, Murugan's early years were marked by the harsh realities of poverty and destitution.

His childhood unfolded amidst the refuse heaps of Ernakulam, where survival was a daily struggle. At the tender age of eight, fate intervened in the form of Brother Mauris, who discovered Murugan on the streets. This encounter changed the trajectory of his life as he was welcomed into the loving embrace of Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan Orphanage in Palluruthy.

It was within the walls of this orphanage that Murugan found not only shelter but also the opportunity to learn and grow. With determination and perseverance, he immersed himself in his studies, mastering the intricacies of the Malayalam language. Beyond academics, Murugan honed his skills in stonework, earning a livelihood with the resilience and adaptability that characterized his journey.

As he matured, Murugan expanded his horizons further, undertaking the task of learning to drive an autorickshaw. By day, he dedicated himself to the welfare of street children, emerging as their steadfast guardian and protector. At nightfall, he transformed into an autorickshaw driver, navigating the bustling streets of Kochi with unwavering resolve.

In 2007, fueled by his passion for uplifting the lives of those less fortunate, Murugan embarked on a transformative mission. He founded "Theruvoram", an organization dedicated to providing refuge, support, and opportunities for the countless children who found themselves abandoned and forgotten on the streets. What began as a humble endeavor has blossomed into a beacon of hope that has touched the lives of thousands.

For the past 17 years, Theruvoram, under Murugan's steadfast leadership, has been a sanctuary for 33,000 street children, offering them not just shelter but also education, healthcare, and a sense of belonging. Murugan's unwavering commitment to the cause of these vulnerable children has earned him the moniker of their savior, a title he wears with humility and pride.

Through his tireless efforts, Murugan has become a symbol of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the service of others. His life story is a testament to the transformative power of compassion and the extraordinary impact that one individual can have on the lives of many. From the depths of a slum to the heights of selfless service, Murugan's journey is an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the boundless potential for positive change that resides within each of us.
