District Legal Service Authority's Intervention Saves Ailing Man Lying on the Street

In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on MG Road in Kochi, the plight of Mohanan Nair, a 60-year-old man from Pathanamthitta, came to light. Nair, a former worker in a private hotel in Angamaly, was discovered lying on the pavement in front of S R V School, his leg infested with worms. His once vibrant life had been reduced to a struggle for survival on the unforgiving streets.

The unfortunate turn of events began when a sore on his leg rendered him unable to continue working. With the little money he had earned, Nair made his way to the South Railway Station, accompanied by a friend. However, fate dealt him a cruel blow as his companion betrayed his trust, stealing what little money he possessed before abandoning him to his dire circumstances.

It was the compassionate action of the staff at the Coconut Development Board that brought attention to Nair's desperate situation. Upon receiving the distressing news, NGO workers swiftly sprang into action, rushing to the scene to provide assistance. Among them were the diligent MSW social work trainees, who meticulously documented Nair's condition and submitted a comprehensive report to the Ernakulam District Legal Service Authority.

Responding promptly to the urgent plea for help, Secretary and Sub-Judge Ranjith Krishna of the District Legal Service Authority took decisive action. Recognizing the critical need for medical intervention, Secretary Krishna issued a swift order to ensure Nair received the care he so desperately required.

Under the efficient coordination of Mr. Murugan, Nair was swiftly transported to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital that very night. The ambulance journey marked a turning point for Nair, as he was finally on the path to receiving the medical attention that had eluded him for days.
